Honor code and exam conduct. Baylor University policies require that students, staff, and faculty act in academic matters with utmost honesty and integrity. It is the responsibility of each student to be familiar with the Honor Code and other university policies and procedures affecting academic integrity. Students are also encouraged to consider these suggestions:

Review each class syllabus for expectations your professor may have regarding course work and class attendance that go beyond those stated in university policies and guidelines and the Honor Code.
Be familiar with the importance of academic integrity in class. Understand how citations show respect for other scholars.
Talk with your professor if you are confused about citation practices or other research standards.
Make sure you understand not only what counts as plagiarism and cheating, but also how to avoid engaging in these practices. Manage your time, take notes correctly, and use the internet appropriately.

Make sure you understand your professor’s guidelines about working with other students on assignments, receiving assistance from other students on assignments, citing sources, using notes or exams from previous or other classes, and accessing information during an examination. If in doubt – ASK YOUR PROFESSOR!
Understand that penalties can result from dishonest conduct, ranging from failure of the assignment to immediate expulsion from the university.

By taking this class, you agree to uphold Baylor University’s Honor Code (http://www.baylor.edu/honorcode/index.php?id=44060). If you violate the honor code, you will automatically be given a score of 0 on the test, without the opportunity to make up the exam. (This zero will not be counted as an exam that can be dropped.) The instructors will report all violations to Baylor’s Honor Council. Other disciplinary actions may be taken at the discretion of the instructor.

To ensure that the Honor Code is upheld, exams will be monitored. The rules below apply during exams.

Lockdown Browser and Respondus Monitor. The exam will use LockDown Browser and Monitor. Students must download LockDown Browser onto the computer they will be using for the exam, and they must have a working web camera on their computer. Download LockDown Browser now! Let us know ahead of time if you have problems with LockDown.

Baylor University requires that you are informed of the following:

"This course requires the use of Respondus LockDown Browser and a webcam for online exams. A description of the services and the terms of use will be presented to students within LockDown Browser upon launch of the software. Students agree that they may be recorded by the software during the exam session, and that the course instructors or other appropriate individuals at Baylor University may have access to and may review such recording. Students further understand that if the results of a review support an allegation of academic dishonesty, the course work in question as well as any supporting materials may be submitted to the Honor Council for investigation and further action. If an inappropriate event unrelated to the test is accidentally recorded, students may request that the video be deleted by contacting the ITS Help Desk."

Guidelines. When taking an online exam, follow these guidelines:

Ensure you're in a location where you won't be interrupted.
Turn off all mobile devices, phones, etc., and put them out of your sight.
Clear your desk of all external materials — books, papers, other computers, or devices.
Remain at your desk or workstation for the duration of the test.

Since your webcam is required, make sure it is plugged in or enabled before starting LockDown Browser.
LockDown Browser will prevent you from accessing other websites or applications; you will be unable to exit the test until all questions are completed and submitted.
When a webcam is required, you will be recorded during the test to ensure you're using only permitted resources.
Before starting the exam, show your Baylor ID or another form of picture ID to the camera.
Make sure your webcamera is working when you take the exam. Students who do not have a Lockdown camera recording during their exam will be given an automatic 0 for that exam.

Best practices for taking exams with Respondus Monitor

Here's how to keep your exam video viewable and problem-free:

Avoid wearing baseball caps or hats that extend beyond the forehead
If using a notebook computer, place it on a firm surface like a desk or table, not your lap.
If the webcam is built into the screen, avoid making screen adjustments after the exam starts. A common mistake is to push the screen back, resulting in only the top portion of the face being recorded.
Don't lie down on a couch or bed while taking an exam. There is a greater chance you'll move out of the video frame or change your relative position to the webcam.
Don't take an exam in a dark room. If the details of your face don't show clearly during the webcam check, the automated video analysis is more likely to flag you as missing.
Avoid back-lighting situations, such as sitting with your back to a window. The general rule is to have light in front of your face, not behind your head.
Select a distraction-free environment for the exam. Televisions and other people in the room can draw your attention away from the screen. Other people that come into view of the webcam may also trigger flags by the automated system.

Exam procedures. The exams will be accessible during specific time windows (unit exams: 12noon-5pm, final exam, 12noon-9pm), always listed in Central Time. Put these on your calendar. If you are in another time zone, be sure you know what time the exam starts in your time zone because it will be different if you are not on Central Time. Double check with your instructors if you are not sure.

You will have 50 minutes to take the exam, but the exam will automatically submit at the assigned end time. This means that in order to have the full 50 minutes, you need to start 50 minutes before the end time. Want to be safe? Start the exam as soon as it becomes available.

You cannot access your exam again once you submit it. Your exam will automatically submit at the end of the window.

You must take the exam independently, without outside help. You may not make a copy of the exam, write down any information from the exam, or view old exams from previous semesters to which you might have access.

After an exam you may review your own exam(s) via Zoom during an instructor’s office hours or by appointment. You must show your webcam during these exam review meetings. You will be able to take notes on the exam, but you may not take photos, video, or screenshots of your exams.

Failure to report another person violating the Honor Code is a serious infraction. Academic misconduct, including cheating on tests, plagiarizing work, or use of unauthorized internet paper-writing sites, may lead to an automatic F for the entire course.
